Vein Care:

Why Missouri Vein Care?

Specialty training and specialty care for vein problems.
Missouri Vein Care was founded by Dr. Michael Ryan, graduate of Harvard and Columbia University. A practicing Cardiovascular Surgeon for ten years who is Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery, General Surgery and Phlebology, Dr. Ryan has assembled a team of experts in vein care and aesthetics to provide state-of-the-art treatments for the people of Missouri.
Modern office based treatments are so patient-friendly, patients are able to return to work and their normal activities immediately.
The process starts with a free consultation and ends with you looking and feeling great.
We take pride in ensuring that our patients have positive outcomes.

Vein Screening

Our Vein Screenings consist of a one-on-one presentation and overview of vein conditions and current therapies. This is followed by a limited private ultrasound exam and a visit with the doctor to discuss what can be done to improve your vein condition.

You should allow 30 minutes to complete the screening.

Spider Vein Treatments

At Missouri Vein Care we successfully treat patients with spider veins every day. Spider vein treatment may involve surface laser treatments and/or sclerotherapy (injection treatments). If the patient prefers, we can offer comfort measures including numbing spray and cream.

The nurses use magnification to identify and inject the spider veins, and may also use a special light to image and treat the problem veins under the skin not readily visible to the eye.

The doctor may use the ultrasound to image other veins which need treatment. For more information, call us at 1-877-870-5244.

Physician Consultation

A consultation visit takes approximately 60 minutes, and the physician will review your ultrasound results, medical history and examine your vein condition before discussing treatment options with you.

Venous Duplex Ultrasound

This non-invasive diagnostic test is performed in our office by registered vascular technologists. The initial ultrasound takes 60 minutes and is needed before obtaining insurance approval and most physician consultations.

Laser Closure of abnormal (refluxing) veins

This non-surgical procedure closes down abnormal veins responsible for symptoms or visible veins. It is performed in our office and although the procedure usually takes only about 60 minutes.

Using the CoolTouch Laser System, a laser fiber is inserted into the vein through a tiny puncture site. The laser energy closes down the vein to relieve the symptoms and help eliminate unsightly veins.

Micro-phlebectomy

Performed in the office, under local anesthesia, this non-surgical procedure allows for the removal of medium to large varicose veins through very small incisions in the skin to provide the best resolution of symptoms and unsightly veins.

Micro-phlebectomy takes approximately 45-60 minutes during the EVLA procedure and allows patients to be back to normal activity the next day.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

This non-surgical procedure for eliminating small varicose and spider veins takes 30-60 minutes and is performed in the office by our team of sclerotherapy nurses and physicians.

Sclerotherapy works by injecting a special solution into the problem vein(s) them to close down and disappear. Most patients find numbing spray unnecessary, but it is available. This procedures is virtually painless and patients can immediately resume regular activity.

Surface Spider Vein Laser Treatment

This non-surgical treatment uses laser energy to close down spider veins. The effectiveness can be increased with the use of sclerotherapy, and our team will use special imaging systems (Veinlite) to identify problem veins feeding into the spider veins so they can be treated.

Comfort Measures

All of our procedures are done with micro-incisions using a small needle. And injections are also accomplished with a very tiny needle. There is essentially no visible scarring, leaving the best result possible. Normally you can return to work and your normal routine right away.

At Missouri Vein Care, we are focused on patient comfort and we take many steps to ensure you are at ease throughout your procedure. Before and during the procedure, we provide relaxation medication in both pill and IV form. You may have “conscious sedation” meaning you will be relaxed and comfortable during your treatment. You can carry on a conversation, tell stories or some people prefer to take a nap. It’s up to you – let us know what you prefer.

During the laser treatment, a numbing solution is used for comfort. At Missouri Vein Care, we take pride in making your experience a comfortable and positive one. There may be mild discomfort as the treated veins complete the process of closing off. Tylenol is usually all that is needed for discomfort. After treatment, our patients may also take Ibuprofen for several days to minimize inflammation and promote healing.

After Care

Missouri Vein Care carries a wide selection of mediven support stockings and all of our staff have been professionally trained to fit you. Wearing medical grade stockings for a period of one week after laser procedures is very important to ensure permanent closure of the laser treatments. There are several different styles of sock butlers stocking application aids to help put on and pull up compression stockings available at most pharmacies.

We want you to walk daily beginning the day of your procedure. You can begin exercising the next day, but we recommend that you refrain from high-impact aerobics or resistance weight lifting for one week. Ask us if you have more questions about this.
This is a process that can take several weeks to months for all your veins to close down and completely disappear. This will vary depending on your individual vein condition.
